Hi! If you’re here, let me start by saying CONGRATULATIONS on your pregnancy and also for taking the steps to prepare yourself (and let’s be real, daddy too!) for the delivery room! Creating a birth plan is a great way to talk through the choices you will make when labor strikes. And having a VISUAL birth plan makes it easier on you and the nursing staff to see what your goals are, especially if the baby in a hurry!
If you are anything like me when I was creating my visual birth plan, I had no idea where to start! I knew what I wanted, but I didn’t know what I needed to include. And how could I keep it to one page; I mean this is a BIG deal, right?!
Well I have simplified that for you! Following this series will give you a step by step guide! We will talk through things like augmentation of labor and what in the world that means, and write our birth plans together! I’m currently expecting my second and I need to update my birth plan, so I will show examples of mine along the way!
General Things to Keep in Mind
When writing a birth plan, I like to include a disclaimer note stating that these are my goals for my birth experience but things can come up which may cause me to have to deviate from my plan. And that totally happened with my first, Rowan! Oh my gosh, NOTHING went my way, but I think more things could have gone my way if I were more educated about what choices I could make in the delivery room. The doctor doesn’t run the show, YOU do. Work with your midwife or OB to make these choices. They don’t get to make the call for you.
The Viox Vitality Birth Plan series is a series of three- two more posts after this one. Be sure to read all three to get the most out of your experience! There’s a ton of useful information. I spent the whole 10 months of my first pregnancy (yes, literally 42 weeks of my life) reading article after article looking for this information. I’m going to put it all in one place for you.
