Our ceremony was honestly my favorite part of the whole wedding day. Below are a few of the things that made it so special!
First of all, I had a cellist. And the cello is my all time favorite instrument. Our extremely talented cellist also played the piano quite well, so we had some variety in our music. Some of my favorite pieces she played during the processional included “Butterfly Waltz” for our flower girls and “Dawn” for our mothers.
Officiant and Readings
Another amazing and unique part of our wedding ceremony was the officiant. My best friend’s dad married us. He made our ceremony so special and sentimental. I also really liked the readings we selected. We had two scriptures and one contemporary quote. Our scriptures were Ruth 1: 16-17, and 1 John 4: 7-19. These passages definitely discuss marriage and its amazing qualities, but they aren’t the typical selections you would hear at a wedding. Our other passage was a quote from the television series called “The Office.” Somewhere else in our ceremony we had a “How I Met Your Mother” quote as well. These are some of our favorite shows to watch together.
Other Ceremony Details
Nick and I, both, come from very cultural families. He is Choctaw Native American, and I’m Irish. Our opening prayer had an Irish blessing, and our closing prayer was a Choctaw blessing. I loved these personal details. We also made the decision to write our own vows, and oh my gosh, that was a tear fest! I’m SO glad we decided to do that. We also had a unity candle ceremony, and a moment of silence for our departed loved ones. Our daughter was about 3.5 months old at our wedding. We actually had our mothers bring her to us and we walked up the aisle as a family- a family that finally shared one last name.
There are so many things I loved about our wedding reception. Here is a photo gallery highlighting some of the big moments and other favorites! All photos were taken by Megan Davis from Moments to Memories Photography.
A couple other cool things we did at our reception were our Photo Booth and, most notably, our snapchat filter. Yeah- we had a snapchat filter for our wedding, and it was definitely a hit! This day was truly one of the best days of my life. (I say one of the best, because the day Rowan was born is definitely up there as well!)
Becoming Nick’s wife has been one of the greatest things I’ve ever done. To this day, I will get tears of joy by hearing our wedding song, “Georgia” by Vance Joy. Marriage has been one of the greatest adventures I’ve ever gone on, and I have the best partner.
