If you missed our full love story, you can read all about it here.
Nick proposed to me before I moved to Ireland. The exact date was 8/7/15, in fact. Most of the time, a proposal usually comes with flawless pictures. The lady is well dressed, and there’s a perfect backdrop- the whole shebang. By looking at the photo above, you can see this was not the case for us.
Spontaneity at its Finest
We were in the parking lot of the car dealership where Nick works. I was there so we could get lunch together, as we were trying to spend as much time together as possible before I left for Ireland. We got Chipotle, and we were going to go eat it at his desk. At this point, we already had our date set and we were looking at venues and vendors. I was just waiting for the ring.
He made elaborate plans to propose to me during a photoshoot or during a park play date with my friend’s kids. But those sort of fell through because he just could not wait.
We were talking about it in the car, and he told me had had the ring on him right then and he asked me if I wanted it. I panicked because I didn’t really know how to respond to that. Of course I wanted the ring, but I wanted him to ask me how he wanted to ask me. I mean, if he was working on something elaborate, I wanted him to be able to do that. Honestly, I thought he was going to propose to me in Ireland when he came to visit, but again- he just could not wait.
I got out of the car- I was literally holding a bag of Chipotle. He came around to the passenger side door where I was sitting, and got down on one knee. He said, “Tess you’re my best friend, the love of my life. I love you so much. Will you marry me?”
And do you know what I said? I said “Duh!”.
A Bit of Backstory on the Proposal
He actually did ask my dad if he could propose. And when Nick told me that story, he said he drove around the block for two hours because he was nervous to have that conversation. How sweet is that?
Our proposal didn’t come with flower petals and chocolates. It didn’t come with a pretty dress and a fresh manicure. It was us. Raw and unfiltered. And the best part was, we just could not wait.
